8 Things Fashion Lovers Should Know in 2024

Ultimate Things Every Fashion Lover Should Know

Are you one of those millennials, who grew up looking up to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for all the fashion trends, watched ‘Confessions Of A Shopaholic’ every time it came on TV, had cut-outs from the most fashionable magazines on trends, consider yourself a fashion lover. But wait there’s more to it. A fashionista has to know some of these things to be part of the league. Here, take a moment to check if you are in or out of the league!

#1 Understand what works for you and what doesn’t

Dressing for your body type is a key player here. If you want to rock a high-slit dress but if you aren’t comfortable in that, it is better to avoid it and go for something safe! If you are tall, a V-neck dress would flatter your body type by accentuating your bust area and highlighting the curves between your waist and hips.

For an hourglass figure, rock the crop top and pencil skirt combination just like Kim Kardashian does. For a heavy lower body, go for prints that will direct attention to the top half of your body.

#2  Keep up with trends

If fashion is what you eat, pray, and love then there’s no doubt that all your friends consult you to know what’s in trend and what’s not. Fashion magazines, websites, and bloggers are some resources you use to keep up with trends. Time keeps on changing and hence fashion evolves with it.

Trends that are ahead of their time often exist at their grassroots level. It is very important to know them and keep yourself updated.  If you think neon is in trend, you are definitely out of the league! Time to brush up your knowledge!

#3 Print and color blocking

Gone are the days when fashion was all about playing it safe and by that we mean teaming stripe blouse with a plain bottom/skirt. It’s time to step out of your comfort zone and try the print on print, stripe on stripe and break the rules! Black and white polka dots are something to look out for in 2024 as it makes its way back. You can also color block your outfits but don’t go too overboard with it. Try complementary colors like red and millennial pink which is here to stay for a while.

#4 Layering

It’s a skill to layer your clothes and not look bulky! It’s a little tricky to do that, especially in the Mumbai weather! It helps you wear outfits in your wardrobe in new ways. One can try this by wearing a white basic t-shirt with a velvet dress, taking inspiration from North Kardashian. Even layering a strappy cami over a turtleneck looks elegant any day!

#5 Fashion terms and lingo

You got to know a list of terms often associated with the world of fashion. They are terms that are often used for a type of fabric, design, or even pattern. Peplum, Culottes, Aztec prints, Dolman sleeves, and terms similar to these should be in your dictionary!

#6 Accessorize

An accessory is like that perfect icing on the cake, which can change the look completely if it is paired well! It takes little to no effort to accessorize your outfit. It can be something very subtle like stacked rings or bracelets,  a chunky necklace to stand out and make a statement, shoulder-grazing earrings, sock boots, short strap crossbody bags, or even funky sunnies like the matrix sunnies. One can even take ideas from the Coachella festival this year, where accessories like pool slides, fanny packs, bandana hairstyles ruled the event.

#7 Heat-proof your make-up

Commuting in the heat can be a task! Even before you board the morning train, the walk till the station ruins your make-up completely. What can you do to stop it from melting? Start by using an oil-free moisturizer in the morning and then use a primer that holds the make-up in place. For foundation, opt for a 24-hour weatherproof liquid foundation followed by your normal make-up routine.

Switching from powders to creamy products can be a good option, especially opting for cheek stains which gives a dewy finish and lasts longer. Ditch matte lipsticks during summers and try stain lipsticks which is simple and versatile.

#8 Fashion week and events

Follow fashion week and events which happen all year round, in various cities around the world. A runway is a designer’s wonderland, where the clothes you see on models become the trend for the rest of the year. It has a major influence on the fashion market.

Even if the clothes seem too outlandish to wear, more wearable versions of it can be found on the streets in the months to come. *At the end of the day, fashion week is the mecca for all things clothing, accessory, nail, and makeup. *

It’s all about staying in the fashion game. Just like top model Heidi Klum says, “In fashion, one day you are in, the other day you are out...”  You have always got to keep your ear to the ground.  We hope you knew most of this already, which means you are a true fashionista!
